Have A Wonderful Madrid Vacation Experience

Madrid is the capital of Spain, housing 3.3 million in the city centre and 6 million in its metro region. Travelers considering a vacation here will be happy to know that rental cars aren’t necessary, since the inexpensive metro system is one of the best in all of Europe. There is something for everyone in the Madrid neighborhoods. Malasaña houses alternative pubs, bars, cafes and novelty shops. Lavapies is both cosmopolitan and hippy at the same time, with African and South American influenced shops, Indian restaurants and some of Spain’s best coffee houses. The bohemian neighborhood of La Latina offers excellent tapas restaurants, micro-brews and the El Rastro flea market. Moncloa, near Universidad Complutense, is a student hangout with cool shops, cheap food and budget-priced drinks. Chueca is the gay district of Madrid, with trendy art galleries, cafes and high-priced shops. Another rich area of Madrid is historic Salamanca. Huertas is a popular tourist destination, with a high concentration of popular hotels, restaurants and pubs. Read on for more travel tips to help you get the most bang for your buck in Madrid!

Eating is a crucial component of any vacation and Madrid travel is no exception. The Spanish are known for their use of spices like saffron, pinchitos, paprika, bouillons and sea salt. They use some of the world’s best olive oil to cook their dishes and combine rice with meat and vegetables in sumptuous feasts. The Spaniards are also very good at using every part of an animal, much to the chagrin of visitors with sensitive stomachs. Those with adventurous palettes and strong stomachs may want to try local favorites like Oreja (pig’s ears) Callos a la Madrileña (tripe with beans), Sopa de Ajo (garlic soup), Bacalao a la Madrileña (salted cod in a sauce) or Rabo de Toro (stuffed cow or bull’s tail). Madrid novelties aside, you won’t want to leave the city centre without trying manchego cheese, manzanilla wine or croquetas and Madrid dipping oil.

Naturally, after eating all that rich food, you’ll need to walk around and see the sights of Madrid. At the ultra-modern Cosmo Caixa (science museum), you’ll catch a glimpse of how the Earth was created, how tornadoes work and play with interactive exhibits that will keep the kids busy for hours. Visit a zoo, an amusement park, a garden and a bullfighting school at Casa de Campo, which is the “Central Park” of Madrid. At Casa de América you will see stunning 19th century architecture and, the locals warn, you may even see a ghost! Capricho de la Alameda de Osuna is one of the most tranquil settings in bustling Madrid. As a hideout for Napoleon’s soldiers, these well-manicured gardens are fit for a duchess (the Duchess of Osuna, to be exact). Nuestra Señora de la Almudena is a neoclassical cathedral built in the 19th century, which tops many Madrid travel plan itineraries. Similarly, the art museum at Basílica de San Francisco el Grande cannot be missed.

According to the Travel Channel’s travel tips, there are a number of excellent tours you can add to your Madrid vacation. If you want to see many of the sights in a short amount of time and gain a general understanding of the Madrid layout, bus tours are the way to go; visit www.madridvision.es/en/index.php or www.madridguidedtours.com for more information. If you’d rather get some fresh air and exercise, a walking tour might be more your speed; check out www.walksofspain.com, www.esmadrid.com/descubremadrid_en/portal.do or www.madrid-museum-tours.org. Lastly, you can hook up with a tapas tour to taste your way around the city through www.walksofspain.com, www.madridguidedtours.com or www.madrid-museum-tours.org.

Enthralling Sintra Portugal

Sintra, situated just north of Lisbon is the previous haven for Portuguese Royalty. Famed for its fairy-tail like qualities, Sintra is a place infused in imagination and myth, nestled in a land that would fit nicely into a children’s storybook.

Sintra is an UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a must see for any person who is earnest to experiencing and seeing the unexpected. People who have visited Sintra regularly  depict as a dreamlike place where fantasy and reality have been carefully intertwined. Sintra gets its out of this world feature owing to the extraordinarily large quantity of Castles and Palaces which have been engineered there in excess of thousands of years. Even the Sintra’s Town Hall, The Câmara Municipal, that you can see on the image above, is an surprisingly gorgeous building.

Similar to many places in Portugal, Sintra has a very extended history, spanning thousands of years. Sintra’s long history can be traced back to the early Neolithic period, and archaeological proof indicates a long succession of human settlements spanning through Bronze and Iron ages.

Throughout Roman occupation of Lisbon, Sintra formed part of the Roman Administration town of Olisipo (Modern Lisbon). But it wasn’t until the 11th century, in the course of Moorish occupation of Iberia that mention is made to Sintra. At that time it was integrated as a dependency of Lisbon. Approximately seven years following the Christian King Afonso Henriques reconquest of Lisbon in 1147, Sintra was awarded charter as a commune. It was during the Christian Reconquest that Sintra’s iconic Moorish Castle was partly ruined.

Sintra was governed by the Knights Templars until the order was abolished. Soon afterward, the Portuguese Crown renamed the Knights Templar the Order of Christ. Although there existed structures constructed by the Portuguese Crown well into the 15th century, it wasn’t until the commencement of the Portuguese Global Empire that Sintra bloomed. It was King Manuel I who created the lasting connection between Sintra and the Crown by enlarging the existing Royal Palace and the construction of the Nossa Senhora da Penha Monestary. It was from the Nossa Senhora da Penha Monestary  that King Manuel I watched Vasco da Gama’s iconic homecoming voyage of discovery.

In the present day, Sintra is a place full of fascination and magnificence that was created by consecutive peoples who lived there. With the help of the Portuguese Crown, it is truly one of the most captivating places on earth, and exceptional in every sense. A trip to Sintra is a necessity and should not be missed on your next Portugal Travel.

The Following are some of the astonishing places awaiting your visit in Sintra:

The Royal Palace: Constructed in the 15th and 16th century the Royal Palace is located in the Centre of Sintra. With its two enormous smokestack, the Royal Palace is as stunning as it is imposing. The Palace has incorporated, significantly, the use of azulejos, Portuguese tiles designed as ornamentation of walls.

The Pena Palace: Designed by Portuguese engineer Possiddnio da Silva, the Pena Palace is a design of pure Romanticism. The prototype Of European Romanticism, the Pena Palace was commissioned by King Ferdinand II, and constructed over the ruins of a medieval monastery which had been vacant after the 1755 earthquake. Extensive use of Egyptian, Moorish, Gothic, and Renaissance elements gives the Pena Palace an everlasting and dreamlike feel.

The Palace of Montserrate: Planned by illustrious British architect, James
Knowles Junior for Sir Francis Cook, The Palace of Montserrate is an example of mid-19th century eclecticism. fusing Neo Gothicism and elements derivative from India, Montserrate is as absorbing as it is magnificent.

The Moorish Castle: Sitting high on a mountain it is believed that the Moorish Castle is not Moorish but of Visigothic in origin. Given that It was occupied by the Moors at the time of the Christian Reconquest it became recognized as the Moorish Castle. Although the castle is partly in ruins, owing to its sacking by Dom Afonso Henriques Crusade in Iberia, it is nicely preserved and worth a stopover owing to its remarkable history and panoramic vistas.

The Quinta da Regaleira:  Built between 1904 – 1910 the Quinta da Regaleira is inspired by mysticism, infused with signs of alchemy, Masonry, the Knights Templar and the Rosicrucians.  The property where the Regaleira sits was initially owned by the Barons of Regaleira, a wealthy merchant family from Porto. It wasn’t until the land was purchased by well-heeled entrepreneur Carvalho Monteiro that construction of the Regaleira commenced. The Quinta should not be missed on your holiday in Portugal.

These are merely a few of the numerous astonishing places to see in Sintra. There are various gardens with vegetation imported from all over of the world. Sintra is more than just a town, it has an energy that makes it one of the greatest places on this planet to visit.

The most popular destination within Grand Canyon National Park is the South Rim. This is where many of the more popular hotels and lodges are located within the park. Long Stay Visas to Thailand

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

In recent months there have been many changes in Thailand’s Immigration and Visa regulations. Most notable among these changes has been the virtual destruction of the infinite visa exemptions once granted by Royal Thai Immigration authorities at border checkpoints. There was a time when it was feasible for a foreign national to get three 30 day stamps, leave the country, obtain a 90 day visa, and repeat this process over again. At this time, this scheme is no longer the way Thai Immigration deals with those entering on visa exemptions.

At present, the Royal Thai Immigration Police have started allowing multiple visa exmeption stamps to be granted at land borders, but their validity is no longer for thirty days. Instead, at the present time they permit foreigners to gain entrance to Thailand, but for a duration of 15 days if entering by land and 30 days if entering by air.

The upshot of this situation was a rise in the number of tourist visa applications being submitted at posts in and around Thailand. Consulates and Embassies in Southeast Asia have seen a tremendous rise in applications for the Thailand tourist visa. The most interesting aspect of this situation was the fact that this upsurge in Tourist visa applications also coincided with a program instituted by the Thai government to give away free tourist visas. Therefore, the Consulates located outside of Thailand were doing more work while bringing in less money. Although a Consulate is not a strictly “for profit” enterprise, the lack of funding and heavier workload may explain why Consulates began scrutinizing Tourist visa applications more closely. This problem became particularly acute at notorious “visa run” posts. The Thai Consulate in Penang began restricting the issuance of multiple tourist visas under the assumption that many multiple filers were abusing the system.

This leaves the prospective traveler asking themselves: What do I do to get a long term Thai visa? The best advice: plan ahead. It is often easiest to obtain a long term Thai visa from a post in the applicant’s home country. Although there are exceptions to this rule, usually an applicant will have the best luck obtaining a visa in their country of origin. That being said, there are some visa categories that can be easily acquired and others that cannot. The three year Thai business visa is a prime example of the kind of visa that is not usually issued. The normal Thailand business visa might be more easily obtained, but this application usually requires the sponsorship of a Thai Company and this is often not forthcoming.

Those interested in relocating to the Kingdom of Thailand should explore all avenues and research the issues very carefully. To learn more please see k1 visa thailand.
